Philadelphia 76ers

Philadelphia 76ers Information

The 2009-10 NBA Season will be the first as Head Coach of the 76er’s for Eddie Jordan will lead a team that features Samuel Dalembert, Andre Iguodala and Elton Brand who signed 5-year $80 million contract in 2008. The team also signed first round draft pick Jrue Holiday, a 6’4” combo guard out of UCLA.

Look for new Coach Jordan to try and get his team past the first round of the NBA Playoffs (which they have made it to four straight seasons) in a much improved Eastern Conference. One of the original members of the National Basketball League, the Syracuse Nationals franchise came into being in 1946 and after moving to Philadelphia in 1963, joined the National Basketball Association changing their name to the Philadelphia 76’ers for the year of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

The first real superstar to don a Sixer’s uniform was Hall of Fame Legend Wilt “The Stilt” Chamberlain who played with the Sixer’s between 1965 and 1968. The next superstar to play for the team was Hall of Fame Legend “Dr. J.” Julius Erving, who in 1976 was acquired as a result of the merger of the NBA and the ABA. Superstars Moses Malone and Maurice Cheeks would also join the ranks of star players for the team. Between 1996 and 2006, oft-troubled but talented guard Allen Iverson played for the team.

On June 1, 2009, former Washington Bullets coach Eddie Jordan was signed as the new Head Coach of the Team that has made four straight playoff appearances.

The team plays in the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia, PA.
